Nationalist Movement Party Mersin MP and Member of the Turkish Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Dr. Levent Uysal, called for an end to the attacks in Palestine during the 18th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) held in Braga, Portugal. MP Uysal stated, “All countries must impose sanctions on terrorism and terrorist states, just as Türkiye does, and voice their opposition.”
As the world continues to watch the humanitarian crisis in Palestine unfold, Türkiye persistently calls for action to end the massacre in the region. Speaking at the 18th General Assembly of PAM, Uysal urged countries to act responsibly to halt this genocide and barbarism. Uysal remarked, “We are in Braga, Portugal, representing our country at the 18th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. As the Republic of Türkiye, we will continue to stand against terrorism and be the voice of the oppressed, wherever we are in the world. Since October 7, 2023, children, women, and innocent people have been slaughtered daily in Gaza. The merciless mindset that forces mothers to search for the lifeless bodies of their children only fights defenseless, powerless, and oppressed people. We are all witnessing the struggle for survival of the oppressed in Palestine. Türkiye’s determined stance against this atrocity should serve as an example to other countries. Our country has not remained silent about the massacre in Gaza and has imposed concrete sanctions on Israel. Those who stain their hands with the blood of women and children hypocritically claim, ‘We are against war.'”
MP Uysal emphasized that if the world does not collectively stand against terrorism for global peace, the events in Palestine could soon be replicated in many other countries. He continued:
“I appeal to those who want to stand with the oppressed and the victims. Turning a blind eye to what is happening in Gaza is a disgrace to humanity and a crime against humanity. In Palestine, mothers are left without children, and children without families. We can only put an end to this oppression through common sense and cooperation against terrorism. Terrorism, wherever and whenever it occurs, by whoever it is committed, is never acceptable. Attacks that target children and women, stripping away the right to life, can never be forgiven. All countries, like Türkiye, must impose sanctions on terrorism and terrorist states and show their reaction. If we do not collectively stand against terrorism for global peace, innocent people will pay the price tomorrow in your countries, just as they are in Palestine today. Ending the pain in Gaza is our collective duty to humanity. As individuals with a conscience and as members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, we must loudly say STOP to this genocide. We must not remain silent. To remain silent in the face of this atrocity is to become complicit in oppression. As the Republic of Türkiye, we will never be silent.”
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM): PAM is an international organization established in 2005 after 15 years of cooperation among Mediterranean states. The process of its creation began in 1990 under the auspices of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in the Mediterranean (CSCM) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). On March 2, 2005, the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye decided to join the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. The 4th General Assembly of PAM was held in Istanbul on October 23-24, 2009.
